Speaking to IQNA, Aiman Rizwan commended the high level of precision and accuracy in the panel of arbiters’ assessment of the contenders’ performances.

He said the presence of Quran experts from different countries in the panel and their proficiency in Quranic fields helps Quran reciters and memorizers taking part in the competition to learn many new things and enhance their Quranic skills.

He also said it is his first visit to Iran and that the weather in Iran, which is cold and dry at this time of the year, unlike that of Malaysia which has a temperate climate, could affect the recitation of the participating qaris and has been a challenge for him.

He noted that he has previously taken part in international Quran competitions in Malaysia and Kuwait.

Asked about his Quranic journey, Rizwan said he started learning the Quran at elementary school and continued enhancing his recitation skills at high school.

Asked about his favorite Quran reciter in the Muslim world, Rizwan said he likes the recitations of late Egyptian qari Sheikh Mustafa Ismail the most.

“I like him a lot but I try to have my own style in recitation of the Quran,” he stated.

Iran’s 40th International Quran Competition was launched in Tehran last Thursday with the participation of 69 reciters and memorizers from 44 countries.

Winners of different categories in the men’s and women’s sections were named and awarded at the closing ceremony held Wednesday evening.

The annual event, organized by Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, aims to promote the Quranic culture and values among Muslims and showcase the talents of Quran reciters and memorizers.
